A 3000 kilometer road trip from SE Queensland to Bright in the Victorian Alps isn't everyone's idea of how to spend the Australia Day long weekend. Especially when combined with a 200km alpine bike ride with over 90km of climbing. But with a great fundraising cause at the heart of it all, this is exactly what Bentonite Resources Simon Restall did. The ride is long, challenging and beautiful. Leaving Bright you ride out through Tawonga Gap before descending into Mt Beauty for a quick refuel and start the long climb up to Falls Creek. The cheerful volunteers have food aplenty before you descend back to Mt Beauty and climb the reverse steep side of Tawonga Gap and head back to Bright for another quick recharge. By now you are getting a little weary but the lure of Mt Buffalo awaits and you head off for another couple of hours in the saddle and by now some tired legs.
A short stop at the top of Mt Buffalo and a welcome cold drink before the exhilarating descent back to Bright and some festive activities with the 'Bonjour Bright' festival. This year over 1800 participants took part in a variety of rides, some shorter, some longer, but all challenging and rewarding. The end result of over $41,000 raised for a great cause makes it all worth while.
Bentonite Resources actively support participation in community and charity events with keen triathletes and equestrian participants in our ranks.
